Evangelicals build enviro street cred

Prominent religious conservatives got on the pulpit yesterday about global warming, supporting cap-and-trade legislation that Bush has repeatedly opposed. As Plenty reported in a Feb/March feature, the growing movement of "Creation Care" is encouraging evangelicals to show some 'spect for God's green earth. (They're also the ones who came up with "What Would Jesus Drive".) But this is the first big public campaign in which these green evangelicals have faced off against the White House--and their position threatens to divide the conservative Christian community. Could eco-issues--gasp!--erode Bush's political base?
