Wild World

If the globe had a photo album, Alastair Fothergill's Planet Earth would be it

On March 25 at 8 p.m. EST, the Discovery Channel will launch the first episode of Planet Earth, a new 11-part mini series about the natural world. Word has it that producers and photographers all around the globe have been working on the series for five years, and that the resulting footage of the world’s most awe-inspiring places—and the creatures that live there—is some of the best ever of its kind. To accompany the show, the Discovery Channel has teamed up with the University of California Press to present a Planet Earth book, which contains more than 400 images from the show. Sound interesting? Take a look at our slide show, then visit the Discovery Channel’s Planet Earth website for videos, games, and more cool pictures.
