Revealing the Reef

A new book, accompanied by a DVD, illuminates a unique ocean ecosystem.

Sea cucumbers, schools of barracudas, and sharks are just some of the images that fill the pages of Reef, a new book meant to draw attention to this biologically diverse, marine ecosystem. To obtain the images and the video for the book, a team of photographers and videographers dove below the sea’s surface to shoot the corals of Southeast Asia, the Red Sea, and Hawaii.

The Borneo-based team, named Scubazoo, includes cameramen, conservationists, and marine biologists. In addition to Reef, the group has worked on film projects with National Geographic, Discovery, and the BBC. Profits from the book go to the Coral Reef Alliance, a nonprofit that works to save the world’s coral reefs.
