I would count the defeat of Charles Taylor (R) by (D) in North Carolina's 11th district as yet another victory for the environment. Consider Shuler's environmental positions at http://www.heathshuler.com/issues_details.asp?id=47 and his endorsement by the League of Conservation Voters, and compare him to Charles Taylor, who was single-handedly trying to force the National Park Service to spend $0.6 billion on an environmentally devastating "road to nowhere" in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The environment almost won another one when Charlie Brown came within 3 pct of defeating Abramoff crony John Doolittle in California's 4th Congressional District. Doolittle has a zero rating from LCV--see Brown's website http://www.charliebrownforcongress.org/wp/?cat=4
for his positions on alternate energy, enforcement of environmental regulations, etc. We may get another chance to support Charlie if and when Doolittle is indicted.
