Singing the energy blues
Energy ... We're looking to try and find some new kinds.
Energy ... Exploring to try and make a new find.
Nuclear and thermal and solar,
If we miss we'll get colder and colder.
Energy ... We've gotta stop usin' you up.
So don't be cross when momma says turn that extra light out.
Just turn it off till we find us a fuel that never runs out.
If everyone tries a bit harder,
Our fuel will go farther and farther.
Energy ... We're gonna be stretchin' you out.
Kind of remarkable given the bluesy ballad will celebrate its 30-year anniversary sometime in 2008. We’re not exactly sure of the date, but we know it first aired in 1978 on ABC, as part of the 12-year run (from 1973-85) of animated musical shorts that taught a generation its multiplication tables, parts of speech, and process by which a bill becomes a law.
But what better day to celebrate than on a summer Friday the pipes of Jack Sheldonof and the genius of lyricist George R. Newall, who maybe unknowingly planted some seeds for the green revolution afoot today.
